A Unique Resource
College Straight Talk is a service of the Center for Alumni Satisfaction & Outcomes Research,
a non-partisan, non-profit organization whose interrelated missions are to
• help improve graduation rates at America’s colleges by providing college intenders with highly accurate, easy to use mechanisms for identifying their best-fit colleges
• neutralize U.S. News & World Report’s widely criticized college rankings - its
exploitation of college aspirants and their families and its pernicious
influence on the behavior of the colleges themselves.
A Unique Non-Profit
As proud as we are of our dedication to those unique and worthy missions, we are also at least
as proud of what we are convinced is an equally novel approach to the generation of
funding for our capital and operational needs.
Most if not all non-profits dedicated to the achievement of broad social objectives are pure charities that end up being permanent financial black holes for the foundations,
trusts, and individuals whom they rely upon for funding.
We are the precise antithesis of that antiquated model.
In terms of improving college success rates the mechanisms we have created for college
prospects’ use in identifying their “best-fit” colleges will undoubtedly have their
greatest impact on less well-off students. To ensure that all of our services are
available to all who will benefit from them, we have developed a program
of free-access subscription waivers that will be dispensed by college
admissions counselors at secondary schools throughout the country.
At the same time, we will generate substantial income from the sale of:
● premium subscriptions to the much larger numbers of better-off college intenders and their families who are able and willing to pay full price for our package of unique services
● website advertising to the many national brands, regional marketers, and college-
town merchants who will benefit from reaching our large numbers of college bound visitors
● detailed survey results and related consulting services to the colleges themselves.
These and other revenue streams will quickly generate the positive cash flows that will soon enable us to begin providing our early donors with returns on their “investments” in the
form of voluntary charitable contributions from us back to them.
